After almost the first half of the season, the Alpine-Signatech car has further increased its advantage at the top the FIA world endurance championship in LMP2 category.

The whole week-end was a rollercoaster ride of emotions as during the first practice race on Friday a mistake of Nicolas Lapierre gave a lot of work to the team’s mechanics to repair the car. It’s sure that during that moment our Bahco tools have been intensively used. We are proud that after a couple of hours, the car was ready to go back on the race track.

On Saturday, the two Alpine’s cars took place in the qualification race. The n°36 with S.Richelmi and G.Menezes reach the 2nd position on the grid. In the meantime, N.Panciatici and D.Cheng positioned the n°35 at the 10th position.

On a sunny Sunday, the race started at 13:00 and the first drivers for the 36 was S.Richelmi and N.Panciatici for the 35. During the first part of the race the n°36 stayed 2nd and N.Panciatici managed to reach the 9th position.

After changed behind the wheels and a couple of “Full Course Yellow” interventions, Gustavo Meneze brought the car n°36 at the first place. The last 2 hours and half were managed perfectly by Nicolas Lapierre. He dealt with the gap to Bruno Senna behind to finally be the first one of the LMP2 to reach the chequered flag. For the car n°35, H.P. Tung produced a solid performance to get the seventh place.

Bernard Ollivier, Deputy Managing Director of Alpine
“For Alpine, to win here in Germany at such a legendary sportscar circuit is a very special moment, which further confirms the strength of our programme! It is true that our car was perhaps not the fastest this weekend, but the entire team stuck to its guns throughout and this victory is a richly deserved reward.”

Philippe Sinault, Signatech-Alpine Team Principal
“Our team truly showed its strength this weekend. We got off to a shaky start with the accident for the N°36 in the first free practice session, but we kept our composure and our concentration.”

Nicolas Lapierre, Driver car n°36
“This is a fantastic result for the whole team, which leaves us in a very strong position in the championship.”

Stéphane Richelmi, Driver car n°36
“It was great for my experience that the team allowed me to qualify the car and take the start of the race.”

Gustavo Menezes, Driver car n°36
“I’m absolutely thrilled with the way this season is going! After finding ourselves on the back foot at the beginning of free practice, the team dug deep to ensure the delay affected us as little as possible. Ultimately, it’s fair to say we weren’t quite as quick as some of our rivals over a single lap, but that’s not the be-all-and-end-all in a six-hour race.”
