The end of the 6 Hours of Mexico officially brings the first half of the season to a close and Signatech Alpine walk away from the race with the #36 car securing 3rd place in the overall rankings. Meanwhile, the #35 car sits in 8th after being withdrawn from the competition

The duo of Lapierre and Menezes welcomed a new third driver, André Negrão who joined the team from the side-lined partner car. Together, they looked to create a run of podium finishes after their Nürburgring result.

While the first 4 hours of the race saw the #36 car comfortably secure a 3rd place finish, the last 2 hours saw the G Drive car fall back to 4th giving the team the opportunity to take 2nd place in the LMP2 category and 6th overall, closing the points gap on the series leaders.

With the series leaders dropping out due to a clutch issue, the Alpine trio were able to close the gap with some crucial points, picking up 18 for their 2nd place triumph.

While the race was full of high octane manoeuvres, it was slowed down as a baseball found its way onto the fourth turn of the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez track. A full course yellow was put into place so that a marshal could safely retrieve the ball before it did any damage to the cars or caused any injuries.

This results puts Signatech Alpine’s remaining team comfortably in 3rd for the entire series. With 4 races left, they find themselves a few points from the Vaillante Rebellion #31 in second place and closing the gap on Jackie Chan’s DC Racing #38 which is still holding 1st place with a commanding lead.

While Alpine Signatech will be pleased to once again be standing on the podium, the knowledge that they were a mere 25 seconds away from 1st place will either frustrate them or inspire them as we head to the next race.

As we enter the second half of the season it will be interesting to see whether the DC Racing #38 car recovers from the clutch problems in time for the next race, the 6 Hours of COTA which features a 5km track filled with 20 different turns. The next race takes place starts September 14th at the Track of COTA.
